« Trains of Fame » exhibition

The « Trains of Fame » exhibition reunited over 133 graffiti artists ans was a great success. More than a thousand people were present during the opening on the 7th of January 2011 at the Gallery Oberkampf in Paris. The most influents actors of the graffiti movement came from France, Belguim, Switzerland, UK, Germany, Spain and Italy to show their créations. Each artist painted a blank model « Trains of Fame » (52 x 4 x 11 cm).

The subway and even more the Parisian subway represent since the beginning of graffiti one of the most presigious place of expression for graffiti artists. It has been a source of creation and inspiration for all of them seeking freedom. Nowaday, it is considered as an artistic support.

The « Trains of Fame » exhibition had one goal, join together all these famous graffiti artist in a contemporary art gallery. Visitors might have compared and admired the 133 creations, fixed five by five on an aluminim support, re creating the atmosphere of a real subway. Numerous people wanted to try to paint a blank one as well, facing the 133 pieces on the walls. The environment of the exhibition refered to street, and the quantity of people was similar to the one you can face in the Parisian subway. The « Pampero »’s bar offered rhum and mojito during the opening. People had to wait few hours for being able to go throw the gallery. The gallery only emptied on the closing day of the exhibiton one week later on the 14th of January 2011

Comer was born in the suburbs of Paris.

In 1987 he discovered Hip Hop, bands and dance, but especially graffiti, a revelation that has never left him since.He started his business with names such as SNACK and FIREFOX. A few months after he found the name COSBIN, which he used during a year. Following his first arrest with that name, he stopped and began to search out for a new identity.After weeks of research he found the name COMER and decides to keep it until death.

For almost 5 years, he expressed himself almost exclusively by tagging his signature.

In 1992, bigger and more colorful than a tag, he mades his first graffiti on the North railway system of the capital, his headquarters. He immediately adopts letters that everyone could read with colorful fills, and starts covering the whole capital with his name as an advertising. He is rapidly present on most of all the railway systems of the north lines and on highways, trains, RER and subway of the capital.

All supports are good for escaping, forgetting his personal problems and feeding his constant need, now almost vital, adrenaline ...Nevertheless, he expresses a preference for the graffiti on subway and train and he will, for more than 10 years pursue his passion with the members of his crew, OBK (DUNK, GOM ...). He quickly becomes a legend at this period in this form of art and will never stop practicing.

In 2002, being a hard activist during all these years, he was arrested in the huge criminal investigation that regrouped all the French vandals graffiti artists. He then has to change and started to work differently with the spray launching himself into artistic customization, designs, logos and paintings of all kinds ...He was rapidly present in a series of exhibitions, festivals and auctions where he was a great success ..

In 2010, fully self edited, he finally released a book on graffiti dedicated to the Isle of France that he prepared for several years "PARIS CITY. A true bible of graffiti with 27 years of archives in 2200 photos, the all concentrated on 300 pages ...

Now, still as enthusiastic about graffiti as he used to be, Comer works on other projects and periodically tries to share his experience and his vision of the graffiti world with people around him.

DECAP comes from the south suburbs of Paris. He discovered graffiti in the 90’s, accompanied with all subcultures that can encircle the phenomenon at this time such as Hip Hop and B-Boyerie. He then quickly develops an affection for it, falls into it and will never come out again from it!

At first he alternates between different name (SAXO, EPOK) and finally found the name « DECAP » in 1992. A revelation for him, 5 letters, a name which sounds graffiti, with impact, easy to remember and comprehensible …

From this time, the history takes another shape and its investment within the graffiti vandal becomes prolific and exponential. He joins different crews of his region such as 3MF, KDR or others such as SEP in 1994. Railways, graffitis, throw up, night outputs with friends, the classic story for a graffiti writer.

1995 becomes an important year in the evolution of DECAP’s job. During the big strikes of the 95’s, the discipline then played as an episodic way is going to become for him the ultimate purpose in the art of vandalism: the graffiti on train or on subway. From this instant, in his eyes, the only graffiti that represents an interest will be play on this surface.

Boosts to adrenalin and dopamine, outputs all over the parisian suburbs chain themselves, alone or in group.

In 1997, a fusion will give life to a new crew « 1K » with the trio ODB (Osey, Decap and Brize). The team is strong, making lots of efforts andimpose themsleves on trains and subways becoming the crossroads of creation! Insurance and adulthood in their styles are always present. The quality of their actions is more and more qualitative, the whole accomplished in records time

Rapidly, DECAP exports himself abroad, by travelling into Interrail, he goes out to the conquest of the European railway systems: Holland, Greece, England, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Republic Czech, Poland …

In a nice morning of January 2002, the dream becomes a nightmare. Inquiry and denunciation, a brigade devoted to the dismantling of the graffiti vandal burst in his domicile to perform a house search and undertake his arrest …

The history does not stop for there for DECAP, the vandal job he made is part of his graffiti artist carrier and his past. For him, graffiti will last for the entire life! Here after he declines his style on others supports such as canvas while perpetuating the unprompted freshness of the graffiti vandal …

PONÉ was born in 1985. He comes from the west suburbs of Paris and discovered graffiti in 1999 from a give up land on his way to school.

He used to sit for hours on a stone covered up with paint observing the « older » painting and watching the trains passing on the bridge, then he rapidly passions himself for this kind of art.

Some months later in June 1999, he begins handling with the spray. Then meetings after meetings and exits after exits, he starts multiplying paintings and graffitis over the streets.

In 2000, Pone joins the AOC crew and carries out his first paintings in group. He quickly falls in love with the game and performs his style day after day. Being at first interested by his district, he rapidly bombs at the entire french capital and its surroundings.

In 2002, having made his proof on the capital, he joins the KSF crew. Refusing to limit himself to French borders, he exports his name abroad, travelling a lot. Pone rapidly went to the conquest of the European railway systems: Holland, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Serbia, Hungary…

The year 2005 is a turning point in his graffiti artist carrier, he joins the famous VMD crew (DIZE, ONEA, TOMEK…) and continues to perform his style an technique years after years.

PONÉ is a multi support artist, painting walls, trucks, railways and trains, he now approaches the graffiti in a different way by working and painting on canvas and participating in many art exhibitions.

PRO was born in the 12th district of Paris in 1976.

He spent his childhood in the district of Choisy-le-Roi. A first graphic impact hits him very early: some comics of Jack Kirby, which he learns to draw at the age of 5 . The Marvel’s drawings, the Strange’s characters and others Nova will follow him all his life.

In June, 1987, the artists Mode 2 and Colt accomplished a wall called " direct Revolution ", a baseline which revealed true for him. Hypnotized by the technique of the two artists, he decides in spite of his young age to devote his life to painting.

In 1991 Pro steals his first classic : the book Spraycan Art. Completly contaminated, the krylon paint runs definitely into his veins. His study of Graffiti continues in parallel of the rap and school is quickly replaced by the meetings at the Railway station « gare de lyon ».

In 1996, renamed " Pro176 ", he creates the International Ultraboys crew. With Gold Jaba, prince Pro, Sozyone, Kool Func 88, Byz, Shake and Kool Recto, they assert a new form of graffiti, an esthetic impregnated with Marvels, with futuristic abstract mathematics of alphabetic constructivism and facials. A kind of new Pure Graffiti, ignoring quite other vision of the graffiti, assumed useless.The same year, he joined the group of the famous " Grim Team " collective of urban artists composed by artists such as OENO, CHAZE or ARMEN the photographer, as well as the ULTRABOYZ’s team.

The steam of paint sticks more than ever to the sneakers of Pro. He multiplies the outputs in group in the French capital and write many tags. His galactic style evolves very rapidly and starts to develop a particular affection for "throws up".

In the vanguard of the graffiti, PRO has a rare and unequalled style, between futuristic lines imitating the styles of an earlier period and Cubism. In painting as in his songs, the cyber painter assert a premonitory lexical field, which is centered around the notions of galaxy, hyperspace and planets.

In 2010, he joins the RTZ crew (Return To Zero), based in Berlin, while continuing his ascent in the art industry.

After many years now, PRO entirely dedicates his life to painting of all kinds: Canvas, Sketches, Walls…

He works at the SEEN STUDIOS in order to improve his style and technique on canvas, keeping his coloured and futuristic style.

ZENOY comes from the west suburbs of Paris. He discovered graffiti at the end of the 80s, beginning of the Graffiti & Hip Hop movement .

In 1988 he begins writing his first graffiti under the name " AWAISUN ", without knowing that it is the beginning of a new story that begins for him.

Slightly later in the year 1988, he changes his name again and decides to write "TRESH" with friends such as STEDY TFB, KONY NMC... He starts the practice of graffiti and multiplies his graffiti in the subway on the line 4 and on the Montparnasse train’s lines. At this time, he likes outputs in group and graffiti begins to take more and more place in his life and in his mind.

In 1990, he changed his name again, "TRESH" became "ZENOY" and this time this is the good, five letters, a name that sounds graffiti, ZENOY will never change again. It is at this time, the beginning of a long adventure, he paints his first blockletter "ZENOY" on the railways of Montparnasse and quickly starts meeting other writers such as STORM and OSTAR from the crew OPR. He spent entire nights with them bombing the streets of the french capital.

In 1991, he meets ZEA and KRUZ as well as many members of the DKC crew. At this precise moment, a story begins for him. ZENOY paints his first graffs on subways and trains but tagging remains very present in his mind, « I like tagging more than anything ».

Later on 1995, he meets SEZAM from the D77 crew (SHUCK 2, CINZ, ORGAN, BEARZ) which is a pioneer of the graffiti on trains at this time. He joins the team and multiplies meetings and outputs in order to devote hiself to his passion, graffiti.

Today, graffiti is an integrant part of his life, 20 years have passed and Zenoy keeps searching a certain harmony between colours and forms. Of course, the letter is the base and foundation of his work, but he always tries to blend and bring graffiti higher.

Besides the vandal graffiti, Zenoy dedicated hiself for more than 15 years to the graffiti on canvas and participated in numerous contemporary exhibitions. When he works on canvas he always tries to blend, to create, to innovate and to mix everything he saws, and lived in his life.He often compares graffiti to a cocktail made of very different fruits but whose the taste should be adjusts until you rich the best one.

After all these years he always has the same motivation and the same spirit when someones talk to him about graffiti. Then, even if the vandal mode is not as it used to be and a page turned off, Zenoy continues being productive and inventive, the ideas and the concepts ring out and he registers hiself day after day as a real artist of the contemporary art world.
